Ahead of Citizenship Day, Civil Rights Groups Team Up
For Scaled Naturalization & DACA Renewals Campaign
Naturalize NOW will drive nationwide efforts to immediately support DACA recipients with renewals process and actively encourage eligible legal permanent residents to take first step towards naturalization
As part of the national Citizenship Day commemoration on September 17 and the following week, the Naturalize Now Campaign aims to prompt 154,000 DACA recipients to swiftly re-apply for permits that are set to expire before March 5, 2018. Renewals must be done before October 5, 2017.
To kick off the effort, and move expeditiously towards this tight deadline, Naturalize Now will be holding numerous naturalization and DACA renewals workshops all across the country in partnership with hundreds of grassroots volunteers, national civil rights groups, local mayors, and members of Congress.
DACA recipients, lawful permanent residents, naturalized and US-born citizens, and undocumented people make up the same communities and the same families; Naturalize NOW Campaign partners will work to support and assist our communities with their pathways to legal status. Through our scaled DACA renewals and naturalization work this Citizenship Day, the Naturalize NOW Campaign works to protect and defend immigrant families and build power to win long-term justice for our communities.

On September 5, the Trump Administration announced their plan to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, placing the fate of 800,000 DREAMers in the hands of Congress. This plan would involve a phase out period for DACA that would take place over the next six months.
At the same time, we have an important duty to empower and protect immigrants in the United States before the November, 2018 elections. Scaled assistance with DACA renewals and naturalization are the most urgent and strategic options to do so.
About the Naturalize Now Campaign:
The Naturalize NOW campaign is a nonpartisan nationally coordinated effort to encourage eligible legal permanent residents to take a meaningful step in participating in America's democracy by becoming a U.S. citizen. Across the country, 8.8 million people are eligible to naturalize but haven’t done so yet. 3.7 million of them could become citizens for free or for a reduced cost, using available fee waivers.
